The ongoing EU customs reform, underway since 2023, includes the elimination of VAT exemptions for low-value imports. Cyprus holds the EU Council presidency, which could explain early adoption of this measure, though no official confirmation exists. Other member states might replicate the fee, but no regulations have been published yet.
