Bosch, Huawei, and Venezuela: What We Know About the DOJ Fine and OFAC’s New FAQs

According to press reports, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly settled the case against Bosch over exports of technology to Huawei without the required license, imposing a fine but avoiding criminal prosecution. At the same time, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) may have updated its general licenses on Venezuela and issued new frequently asked questions (FAQs). As of this writing, official instruments—such as DOJ press releases, Federal Register entries, or OFAC updates—have not been confirmed.

The Bosch-Huawei case falls under tightened U.S. export controls targeting Huawei, which has been on the Entity List since 2019. The administrative resolution suggests the DOJ values voluntary cooperation. For Venezuela, OFAC’s general licenses provide sanctions exemptions; the new FAQs aim to clarify their application, though details remain preliminary.
